Established in 2007 through the support of generous donors, the IU South Bend Elkhart Center has served as a dedicated educational hub in downtown Elkhart. The Center continues to advance regional healthcare training by offering full‑time graduate programs in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) and Occupational Therapy (OT). These programs provide rigorous clinical preparation and hands‑on learning experiences that equip students to become the next generation of highly skilled healthcare professionals. Faculty and staff in Speech-Language Pathology also operate the IUSB Elkhart Speech-Language Clinic, offering vital services to the community while giving students supervised, real‑world clinical experience.
Beyond graduate education, the Elkhart Center is expanding its commitment to regional workforce development. We recently launched the ProSkills series, providing practical, career‑ready skills training for emerging professionals, adult learners, and local employers. Additional programs are currently in development as we continue strengthening our role as a partner to the Elkhart community.
The Center also supports early‑college pathways through dual‑credit offerings for Edwardsburg Schools, with plans to extend these opportunities to additional local school corporations. These partnerships help area high school students earn college credit and build momentum toward postsecondary success.
As an anchor tenant, Beacon Health System plays an important role in the building by offering CPR certification for all Beacon Associates and hosting additional community classes onsite. Their ongoing presence enhances the Center’s footprint as a trusted hub for high‑quality health and safety training in the region.
To further support community needs, the Elkhart Center offers large and small classrooms available for rental by organizations, employers, and partners. Spaces can accommodate trainings, meetings, workshops, and special events. Inquiries may be directed to Bill Cochran, Building Liaison, who coordinates scheduling and facility use.
